How Secure is Your Cloud?
06/30/2009
Cloud computing isn’t a new idea for the marketplace. It’s pretty well agreed that cloud computing – IT as a service – is growing in popularity every day and is here to stay. What isn’t agreed is – how secure is the cloud?
Almost two thirds of IT executives surveyed in a recent research study said that cloud computing was on their planning roadmap but half of those said that Security is still their greatest concern when thinking about adopting cloud computing at their company. And 60 percent felt that vendors have not adequately addressed the security concerns of the cloud.
That may be why most organizations that have already embraced the cloud have moved non-core or less sensitive operations on to the cloud. "Clients are being cautious with their first steps in to cloud computing", says Meg Lustig, Cloud product manager at Unisys Corporation. "The worry over loss of control, especially concerning the security aspects of operations, is something we are hearing regularly from clients. Logically, they understand the benefits of cloud computing but unless you can guarantee a level of security equal to, or better, than what they currently have in-house they aren’t willing to move to the cloud. This is why we think our Secure Cloud solution is so compelling for organizations."
The Unisys Secure Cloud Solution is targeted at customers who have a greater need for security and aren’t willing to add any risk into their existing operations. It creates an uncompromised offering for Secure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Secure Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Secure Software as a Service (SaaS) as well as Secure Applications as a service, what Unisys calls "My Application as a Service." Secure Cloud accomplishes this state-of-the-art security by using certified encryption as well as a unique, patent-pending bit-splitting technique that allows multiple communities of interest to share the same infrastructure without fear of any other group accessing their data.
"We think that by finally securing the cloud we are able to open up the benefits of cloud computing to a greater number of organizations – and tasks within those operations".
