Washington State Department of Social and Health Services Selects Unisys Private Cloud Solution to Host Managed Services
State agency moves to private cloud-based as-a-service model, to modernize aging infrastructure while cutting costs
BLUE BELL, Pa., April 20, 2016 – The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) has awarded a five-year, $20 million contract to Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) to provide a private cloud solution. The contract supports multiple divisions within the department, including the Division of Child Support.
Unisys ClearPath Forward services are a core part of the solution, providing streamlined, cost-effective management of the cloud infrastructure and associated application environment.
The contract allows DSHS, a new Unisys client, to move to an as-a-service IT model in which the department's applications are hosted in Unisys data centers running on Unisys-owned equipment and infrastructure. By using the new model, DSHS gains efficiencies associated with purchasing, operating and maintaining new hardware, and protects the security of sensitive information while adding capacity for disaster recovery and network backup services.
Unisys will provide these hosted managed services from sites in Eagan, Minnesota, and Salt Lake City.
As part of its mission to transform lives, DSHS provides a broad range of support services for individuals and families. Its contract with Unisys was designed to help the department achieve its objectives more efficiently.
Through the new as-a-service model, Unisys will replace the agency's aging IT infrastructure and help DSHS update its operations to better handle existing and future needs. Unisys will provide ITIL-certified managed services for the Unisys ClearPath Forward Dorado systems and associated applications hosted in Eagan and Salt Lake City, as well as analytics and secure transaction capabilities designed to meet the unique needs of DSHS.
"Unisys is proud to have been selected to support DSHS in its essential mission to protect children and promote healthier families," said Mark Forman, global lead of Unisys Public Sector. "We look forward to working with DSHS to provide highly qualified personnel, new hardware and added disaster recovery and network backup capabilities."
DSHS selected Unisys for this project through an existing Unisys master agreement with the Western States Contracting Alliance. Under that agreement, participating state governments and other public sector organizations can purchase Unisys services and solutions.
